The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) has released its 2020 review of restrictions on direct contact of taxpayers by IRS employees.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) has released its 2020 review of restrictions on direct contact of taxpayers by IRS employees.

Auditors analyzed the extent to which IRS officers in the Small Business/Self-Employed Division’s Field Collection comply with direct contact provisions during interactions with taxpayers or their representatives.

Auditors reviewed a sample of 96 Field Collection function cases. Of the 96 cases, TIGTA found only three instances “in which revenue officers contacted taxpayers directly, even though there was an authorized representative on file,” the audit said.
