Scams related to COVID-19 are multiplying.

Scams related to COVID-19 are multiplying, according to the IRS Criminal Investigation Division (CI). And, they aren’t limited to attempts to steal federal stimulus checks from unsuspecting taxpayers.

Don Fort, the CI Chief, said, “Criminals try to take advantage of our most vulnerable times and our most vulnerable populations.” CI has seen schemes organized to sell fake at-home tests, cures, vaccines, pills and advice, and the creation of fake shops, websites and social media accounts, which take payments but fail to deliver the supplies.

Fort said these schemes aren’t new. “We know how to find them and we know how to expose them.”
