A new report looks at how laws passed during the pandemic have affected the U.S. economy in terms of national output.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report explains that the CARES Act authorized Economic Impact Payments of $1,200 per qualified adult plus $500 per qualified child. “Higher-income households, whose income was less disrupted by the pandemic, probably spend a smaller portion of the funds they receive than lower-income households do,” the report said. According to CBO estimates, those payments will boost gross domestic product by 60 cents on the dollar in 2020 and 30 cents on the dollar in 2021.
