Congress is discussing making more direct payments to eligible individuals to help mitigate the financial effects of COVID-19. But two Democratic members have expressed concern that some people are still waiting for their first Economic Impact Payments (EIPs).

In a July 27 letter to the IRS Commissioner and the U.S. Treasury Secretary, they stated that recent estimates showed that as many as 30 to 35 million EIPs were yet to be issued. “As the pandemic continues to ravage the nation, Americans cannot wait any longer for the emergency assistance they were told would arrive in the spring,” they wrote.
